New Application Brings Cable TV to the iPhone

CYBERSPACE — Cable TV is on its way to the iPhone.

At the MacWorld exposition this week, a company called Sling Media unveiled a new iPhone application called SlingPlayer Mobile. The app, which is not yet available, will link users’ iPhones with their cable TV service.

Users will also be able to access their digital video recording devices, such as TiVo, remotely, giving them the ability to play back recorded programs on their iPhones.

Blake Krikorian, co-founder and CEO of Sling Media, also unveiled a product called SlingPlayer for Mac HD, which lets users of the company's high-definition cable box stream HD TV content directly to their Mac computers.

"SlingPlayer Mobile is ideally suited for the iPhone's large touch screen display and I know iPhone users are eagerly anticipating the application's availability," he said.

The iPhone has been a hot topic for adult producers and professionals since its debut, and Sling Media's mobile application opens up the possibility that consumers will be able to stream and watch adult content by way of their cable services and pay-per-view channels, which the product also supports.

The iPhone app won't be available until later this year, because the company still needs to submit the app to Apple to get approval for entry into the Apple App Store.
